Sahibzada Farhan takes charge as Pakistan T20I captain

• • Islamabad, Pakistan

RAWALPINDI: Sahibzada Farhan has been appointed Pakistan’s T20I captain for the upcoming three-match home series against Sri Lanka, marking a new chapter in the national team’s shortest-format leadership.
The Pakistan Cricket Board announced the squads for the T20I series and the subsequent ODI tri-series on Monday.
Farhan, who recently captained Pakistan at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, will lead the T20 side against Sri Lanka, with all three matches scheduled at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on October 9, 11 and 13.
He replaces Salman Ali Agha as T20I captain. Salman has been left out of the T20 squad but remains part of Pakistan’s ODI team, which will be led by Shaheen Shah Afridi.
The 15-member T20I squad includes experienced players such as Fakhar Zaman, Saim Ayub, Shadab Khan, Naseem Shah and Abrar Ahmed, while several players who impressed at the Asian Games have also retained their places.
Hasan Nawaz, who was Pakistan’s leading run-scorer at the Asian Games, is among those selected. Razaullah and Mohammad Imran Randhawa are also included after making an impression at Test level.
Pakistan will turn its attention to the ODI format after the Sri Lanka T20Is. Shaheen will continue as captain for the seven-match tri-series involving Pakistan, England and Sri Lanka.
The first three matches of the ODI tournament will be played in Rawalpindi before the competition moves to Lahore for the remaining matches and final.
