RAWALPINDI, October 9: Sahibzada Farhan and Maaz Sadaqat struck impressive half-centuries to guide Pakistan to a four-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the first Twenty20 International at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Friday.
Chasing a target of 183, Pakistan reached 187 for six in 18.5 overs to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, with seven balls to spare.
Farhan led the successful chase with a commanding 89 off 53 balls, while Maaz contributed a brisk 50 off 29 deliveries. Their crucial partnership helped Pakistan recover from early pressure and keep the required run rate under control.
Farhan combined confident stroke play with aggressive hitting, while Maaz provided valuable support with his attacking approach. The pair put Pakistan in a strong position to chase down the target.
Khawaja Nafay finished the match in style, hitting a six off Eshan Malinga in the 19th over to seal the victory for the hosts.
Earlier, Sri Lanka posted 182 for eight in their allotted 20 overs after winning the toss and opting to bat.
Opener Lahiru Udara top-scored with a brilliant 91 off 55 balls, striking 11 fours and a six. His innings provided the foundation for Sri Lanka’s competitive total despite Pakistan’s efforts to take wickets at regular intervals.
Pakistan’s Naseem Shah led the bowling attack with three wickets, while Mohammad Imran Randhawa claimed two. Debutant Razaullah also made an impact by picking up a wicket.
Pakistan will look to extend their advantage in the second T20I, scheduled to be played at the same venue on October 11. The third and final match of the series is scheduled for October 13.
